Believe it or not I had a neighbor several years ago who had a  Chevy Vega 
and drove it for over a year with only the first 4 gears,
Didn't know until I drove it one day and shifted into 5th. He said "what the 
hell did you do" Bought the car used and it had an after market shift knob 
which didn't have a pattern on it!
