Subject: fuel consumption

I am sure that this has been done to death but here it is again.

I have been running my 72 TR6 up and down the highway and city. I am
getting
a combined highway/city reading of about:

18.5 mpg (American gallon)
22.27 mpg (British gallon)

Memory says that I should be doing better.

I have the 72 engine with a slightly hotter cam, Crane cams electronic
ignition and header onto an Ansa exhaust.

Can anybody verify what I should be seeing? I don't seem to burn any
oil,
and there is no overpowering smell of gas or anything like that. No
clouds
of black smoke, Engine recently (in terms of milage) rebuilt and oil
pressure very good. Typically I run between 2600 and 3300 rpm in fourth
gear
(O/D not working yet) on the highway. I am not pushing the car too
aggressively, so I am not buring great gouts of fuiel accelerating.

72 TR6 (thinking of calling her "Thirsty")

Mark,
I have the same set up 71 motor, Monza exhaust. Car runs like a Bat Out
Of Hell, but gas mileage sucks. I get my rebuilt speedo back this week,
so I'll know for sure, but I would be surprised if I get 18. I am having
problems with engine run on, and sometimes get a backfire. I'm running
rich also.
