I'm sure that the local politicians are telling you that the BIG OIL
COMPANIES are gouging California but not Virginia (or Ohio). What they
won't admit is that the local taxes are higher, local law requires more
expensive special blends and pipeline and refinery construction has been
prohibited for decades. Unfortunately, a majority of the public will
believe the politicians. They might wake up when gasoline reaches
$5/galleon as it is in the UK. However, I'm sure the wealthy local
environmentalists think that would be great --- make gasoline too expensive
for poor people to drive and air pollution will decrease.
Governor Davis will probably ask the Feds to subsidize California gasoline
just like he has for natural gas and electricity. As I recall, the rest of
the country built the California water systems and supplies the water --- at
much lower rates that we pay back here. I for one think that is enough
federal aid.
Please, no offense intended to the citizens of California. I hope you all
demand that the local politicians encourage the development of adequate
supplies of economical clean energy while at the same time eliminating waste
wherever possible.
