Hi all.

I got the call last night. The call from my mechanic on the state of my 73
TR6's engine.

As some of you may recall, I'm the fellow who cleverly hung a scuba diving
weight belt from his oil pan to get it off. The fellow who so proudly
conquered the removal of his first ever main bearing. The fellow who almost
lost control of his bladder and told his dog he might have to sell her when
he discovered what a scored crankshaft feels like.

So the mechanic called. My engine and tyranny are out of the car and I'm
picking up the crankshaft tonight to have it... polished? ground?
smoothed? re-cranked? Whatever. So no problem. AND he reported to me
the compression test he had done on the engine: all cylinders were from 110
to 120. That's not too bad, is it? It was a cold test and used the wrong
oil (10W30 which the PO had told me to use but I now understand from this
list it should be 20W50).

So the mechanic's opinion is that I shouldn't bother doing the upper engine
stuff - rings/valves/etc/etc. What do you folks think? Remember, money IS
an object here!
Cheers and thanks for all the terrific advice over the last few months.
Frank
