Cliff, When I plug weld, I use a very slow wire speed and the highest heat setting on my Craftsman 110V mig welder. I use straight .022 wire with gas(set at 10cfm) and start in the center of the hole and work to the adjoining metal. With plug welding, you run the risk of sinking too much heat away and never penetrating the center. It's imperative that the center get molten...then the adjoining metal will melt into the center.
