"a hunk of wood about yay big" is the correct terminology for construction
lumber of ANY dimension not actually used for construction.

"that hunk o wood there" is an acceptable substitute.

And, ...would you believe (to quote a Mr. M. Schmart".... that in the early
80's that a 4x8 sheet of 1/2" plywood was ACTUALLY referred to as . get this


1220 x 4880 x 12.5 mm.
