M.P. and TR List,
I have been contemplating doing some modest port/combustion chamber grinding
work (gas flowing by eye as it were) on my previously unaltered TR4 head
(mild skims only). I would buy a flexible grind cable and stone bits as
described in Kastner's Competition book. I have read Kas's book several times
over but am still a little reluctant. I think I have a good eye for detail
and fair understanding of the goal but wondering - should I have a specialist
work the head? As these heads are pretty rare now it would hard to find a
machinist who has recent experience with these old engines (except the real
expensive shops that cater to race TRs - where-ever they are ??). Last work
done was all new valve seats - this time around putting in 4 new exhaust
valves and new double style (standard) TR4A spring set and new guides.
Should I give it a go myself, or bite the bullet and have it done by a pro?
(which pro?)
