dash varnish remover recommendation

Hi Guys,
I'm trying to strip the varnish of my wooden dash panels on the Stag.  The 
paint and varnish remover I got from Sears only seems to remove small layers 
of varnish at a time and involves a lot of scrapping.
Can anyone recommend a good varnish remover for this job?
