This is true.  There are two sealed chambers with a dry section in between.

Jim and list, the PDWA is of no use if you suffer a catastrophic failure as
you described HOWEVER if you get a leak in a wheel cylinder the slow
reduction in fluid pressure in the rear circuit (which may not be noticed
by the driver) will cause the shuttle to move off center iluminating the
light warning the driver to have the brakes serviced.

As you say there are seals that are good against brake fluid.  And there
are members of this list who know what that material is.  I am not one of
them and I am hoping that those who do know will fill in this blank.

Of course, if you are using DOT5 you can use anything so take your seals
(O-rings) to the hardware store and fine suitable replacements.
