List,

Since most of us (all of us!?) seem to have colorful previous car ownership
stories, I'm curious about something......why do you suppose that the Chevy
Corvair didn't make the list? My dad had 'a 61 which I would (unknowing to
dad) tape vinyl racing stripes on it and take it to the local parking lot
gymkhana on weekends for a spin. Later in life, I bought a used '66 Monza for
$200 which turned out to be a quite reliable complement to my '58 TR3A when
the weather turned nasty. Sure, the flat 6 engines leaked oil everywhere
(especially interesting when the oil leaked on the exh manifolds and scented
the heater air...eau de carmelized oil), the steering box lash screw needed
to be turned in every 10,000 miles to keep the front end from shimmying its
nuts off and Ralph was upset with the swing axles and their tendencies to
tuck under....hmmm....I have a Spitfire with an oil leak and swing axles....

Just so you know my position....I loved those cars and am happy that it isn't
on the list but you gotta think that there certainly is enough "negative"
documentation from it's 10 model years to get it a position in the top 10!?
I think the answer lies in the "fun factor"....something a Yugo or Vega or
128 didn't embrace with a lot of owners....but something that will forever
keep any of our LBCs off anyone's worst car list.

Not much happening in the office this morning....miserable weather...think
I'll get the VTR mag out before the phone starts ringing...

Cheers,

chip
