Oh Yessssss!

Thanks guys.  The toothpaste works well.  It is a very fine polish
indeed.  I have managed to buff out the stains with some good ol'
fashioned elbow grease.  The stains are gone and the areas I buffed are
now polished to a gleaming shine.  Unfortunately the rest of the table
has a satin finish!  It will still be much easier to apply a new coat of
satin finish rather than sand, stain and clearcoat.  Thanks loads!  My
wife is also very grateful.
