My 73 TR6 "pops" out of third gear whenever I decelerate. I have been driving
it this way for some time now but I am growing tired of driving the local
mountain roads with one hand holding the grearshift lever in third and the
other tuning the radio. I have finally decided to rebuild the trans. After
dismantling it, I think I have found the culprit and am not sure where to go
from here.
SORRY ... Cutting to the case... The gearbox appears to be an early type with
narrow dog teeth while the third/fourth gear synchro is the later type with the
wide grooves (the first/second appears to be correct). With the addition of a
little wear I think it is slipping out of third.
First, is it likely that this is in fact the problem and second, if it is and
the early synchros are not available (as the Moss catalog indicates) what's my
next move?
Thanks in advance
