List,
I now have a new front stub axle on the way. And I now know how NOT to
remove one from the @#$%#@% vertical link. I'm sure that in about a
week this will seem pretty humorous, the mashed knuckle from missing
with the mallet and the burnt fingers from grabbing the parts that had
just been heated up with the torch, but right now its.....well painful.

So, a few questions have come up.
First, I take it that the best way to remove a frozen stub axle is to
mount a big gear puller on it... tighten it up....heat the vertical link
while continuing to torque down on the puller until everything finally
breaks loose. Is there a better way? Something with less shrapnel?

Second, do I need to put any antiseize on the taper before assembly with
the vertical link or is dry metal to metal friction fit necessary? I'm
expecting that by putting a cotter or nail through the hole on the other
end while the castle nut is on, I can get a good hold of the stub axle
to apply proper torque to the nylock nut. Is there a better way to do
this? I don't want to anywhere else on it for fear of dinging up the
surfaces where bearings are going.

Anything else I need to watch out for? (Besides myself and hot metal
pieces that is.)

Thanks in advance.....again
