Hi PI fans,
Before every body starts to invest a lot of cash in Pi systems I
would like to let you know that the Lucas fuel injection in not as
smashing as you think. For a few more HP you will have to give up
a lot of driving comfort.
Also be aware that in PI cars the system does not only consists of
a pump and metering unit. Beside the higher engine compression
and a sharper cam many other changes have to be made to the
car.
This goes from " Aircleaner box, filter element, hose, bracket, air
intake manifold, throttle bodies with cams butterflies and links,
throttle cable, twin choke cable, 6 injectors with injector pipes,
metering unit, pedestal for metering unit, double pipes from engine
to the tank, PI tank with swirl tank- PRV return and metering unit
return, pressure relief valve, fuel filter assembly in luggage
compartment HP fuel pump, and electric cabling.
With all this the chance of brakedown in summer temperatures due
to vapor lock is 75 percent.Only very well maintained systems will
run well. The chance that your rebuilt Lucas pump and metering
unit is 100 percent reliable is very remote. You can buy PI units
rebuilt to very high standard, but they are in general exchange
units, and are rather expensive. If you want to go for fuel injection
try to find an EFI system. If you have a PI car that is running, keep
your hands off, every skrewdriver-turn will deteriorate the system.
Driving 26 years PI but only as long as temp.are below 30deg C
