I believe that the best oil is full synthetic Mobil1. It is far superior
to regular oil that was originally available for our cars. The 0W30, 5W30
& 15W50 viscosity choices protect your engine at startup and under load much
better than conventional oil.
This is personal opinion, but backed up by almost 20 years of using
synthetics on my cars. When I was in the Navy in the 60's and working as a
jet engine machinists mate, we used synthetic oils for all lubrication on
the those military jet fighter engines.... before the synthetic oil was
available in the public domain.
I don't believe the synthetic should affect your gauge readings in any
way... at the same viscosity ratings. If your concerned change the oil to
conventional and see what happens.
