Scott,

I just replaced the clutch on my TR6 (last weekend) after it failed (wouldn't
engage) on the way to work the previous week. The clutch pedal with the
old clutch was very stiff, not unmanageable, but still fairly stiff. When I
picked up the new Borg & Beck? clutch from a garage here that knew
a bit about Triumphs (hard to find in little old Adelaide, Australia), the
mechanic said that this problem was probably caused by using a
reconditioned clutch kit, rather than a brand, spanking new one. Sure
enough, after removing gearbox, etc it seemed that the old (broken)
diaphragm was a reconditioned component (it was sprayed blue, while
the new part was bare metal). They must put stiffer diaphragm springs
in the things when they recon them. Interestingly, the old recon clutch
was also a B & B...

Hope this helps,

Frank
