Gentlemen, thanks to all. I followed up on all your
suggestions then turned it over to the pro. The problem was no spark,
diagnosis worked back to the final cause - a Lucas style Lumenition. The
mechanic could not remember the last time he saw a faulty control piece.
Initially the group was leaning towards coil, condenser or distributor
believing the solid state piece would either work or not.
The car now has a new Lucas Sport coil and a replacment
Lumenition control piece.
Thanks for all the suggestions, and to Trevor Boicey who offered
to swap in a Crane to help isolate the problem.
