I just received my engine back from the shop where it was honed to accept a
0.030" over size piston. The bore was determined based on the piston skirt
diameter + 0.0025" which is consistent with the dimensions provided by the
factory shop manual.
Problem is that the stinking rings have too much end gap! Rather than the
recommended 0.012 - 0.017" end gap I got 0.026" on the first set of rings.
Rings from a different vendor provides a gap of 0.021".
Has anyone else had this problem and if so what can be done about it?
By the way filing 0.040" over rings to fit a 0.030" bore results in an oval
ring that is a worse problem than the end gap that I am currently fighting
with.
Does anyone know if Venolia pistons supplied with file to fit rings, and if
so who stocks them??
