   Had the same problem, only it happened on all changes into third with my
TR6.  If your transmission has the brass top hat bush this may be your
culprit.  The flange sheared off on mine and when I took the mainshaft gears
off, the thrust washer fell out in three somewhat squashed pieces.  The play
that this allowed meant that most of the face of the teeth on the third
speed gear were silver shavings mixed in with the oil.  I believe this bush
is famous for its ability to fail.  It would be nice if the problem were
simply synchro rings but the symptoms sound awfully familiar.  Hope this
