This is more than linkly the same circuet as on Spitfire's, you have the
overdrive isolator switch, and overdrive solinoid and switch in a serise
circuet, running from the same power as the revirce ligh, to the earth
wire, the revirce light runs from that power to the wire to the bulbs.

Should look kinda like this presuming it's not the relay version.

  | |
   \OSSW \ Revirse sw
  | |
   \ODINHB | To revirse lights
  |
  Solinoid

 -------
Assuming the circuet checks out!

Overdrive bit

First take a multimeter (this is a nesecity for fixing car electrics,
but you can improvise), and see wether the overdrive inhibit is closed(0
Ohm) when in 3/4 and open (Inf Ohm) 1/2/N.

Then your gearleaver thing must be working.
Check your solinoid is not in too far look in the workshop manual.
REvirse light, mesure the continuity when out the switch is off, if
still closed replace(there so cheep) or you have put them in to far,
remember you have that lock washer on it use it to adjust the switch to
come on in the right place.

That yould have sorted it, if not then it's somthing different:-)
