Hey John,
The trunnion is considered to be the Brass peice that unscrews from the
vertical link. The vertical link is the peice your upper ball joint attaches
to. The trunnion is made from brass. Remember that there are lefthand and
righthand components for the front suspension and they should not be mixed-up.
Check the part numbers to make sure you have the correct pieces. My front
suspension was made up of righthand components on both sides!
AS for removing the bolt from the tunnion, I had to do this to both of mine.
The DPO had used Lock-Tite! on the bolt. Carefully drill a whole down the
middle of the bolt, if you have a drill-press it will be easy to drill a
straight large whole. Then apply heat, Heat, HEAT. After a while the bolt
will break free. Spent about a day on each trunnion. If you screw it up you
can always buy a new trunnion. Also, if you don't feel like spending the time
you can just buy a new trunnion.

I have the complete A frame disassembled. My problem is the trunnion bolt
on one side of my suspension is broken off flush on one side, and hanging
out 1.5" on the other side with no bolt head. The broken bolt will not
come out. Any thoughts on removing this damaged bolt without destroying
the rest of the assembly? Is the whole vertical piece considered the
trunnion? It seems to be made from some type of alloy. Can it withstand
the heat from a welding torch? Everything looks to be in good condition,
except for this broken bolt.
