There's an easier way. I bought an adjustable thermostat from Brit Vic that had a small hollow copper capillary with a sensor at the end. It senses the water temperature by being inserted right into the top of the radiator inside the hose. You tighten the hose clamp -- and, believe it or not, no leaks.
