Is the bellhousing the same for the Spitfire single rail tranny with the oil-
thrower and the Spit single rail tranny with the oil seal? While trying to
swap from the oil thrower to the oil seal type I found out that the front
oil cover (fits into the bellhousing ) was different. At that point I didn't
even know the trannies were different. I asked for a tranny for a 79 Spit and
was sent the one with the oil seal. Here's where the fun begins. While
tightening down the bellhousing I broke the front oil cover. I disassembled
everthing and upon closer inspection found the input shaft on the
replacement tranny had a widere shoulder( for the oil seal-I guess). Those
front covers aren't available anymore. I got a used one from San Jose (via the
net) . I bought the one that supports the oil seal. The problem now is that
when I tighten down the bellhousing the input shaft stops turning freely. It
seems to be rubbing on the shoulder of the input shaft where the circlip
rests . What I need to find out is - Do I have the right bellhousing to
support the tranny designed with the oil seal. Any and all info is greatly
appreciated.
Another option would be to ship the tranny back and get one with an oil
thrower- Would the front cover with the oil seal work with this tranny ?
