Brad If the panel is made of reconstituted cardboard with a crackle/bubble type surface facing the spare wheel, it was semi-matt black. A bit more towards matt than gloss and I don't think it was painted. That was the colour poured into the liquid pulped paper mix and the baking process gave it the finish described above.
