What many Internet users fail to realize is that doctoring email headers,
while very easy to do, does not prevent an ISP from identifying who really
sent the email. I run an ISP and we deal with customers who receive abusing,
harassing, threatening emails (and SPAM) everyday. The sender has usually
changed all sorts of identifying data in their mail program and figure
they'll never get caught. However, the detailed header information also
includes the IP address, modem port and shelf that your ISP's modem assigned
to your account when you signed on. We then take the date, time and IP
address etc. and bounce it off our Radius logs and we can ID what account
was logged on to that modem at the time. Depending on the abuse, the account
is terminated....... followed shortly by a phone call from Mom or Dad with
little Johnny wailing in the background. Just because someone's name came
through on an email, don't assume they are the ones who sent it.

nobody has yet replied to my request to send me the complete header. This
may be someone else's doing. No matter what, I have received a couple of
nasties back. I don't think I've ever "not" been a good lister or bothered
anybody (at least no one has told me until now). However as I have had a
very trying 3 months and my skin is getting a little thin I would appreciate
eveyone's indulgence. Not to rant but you all know what my option is.
