This will apply to most U-joints. As wear develops, the retaining circlip
"spins". If the UJ has been painted, then the spinning circlip will
show shiny metal. This is a good reason to paint the UJ (hammerite
paint works well) after it has been assembled in the half-shaft.
Another way to check the UJ is with the car solidly on jack-stands,
look for any relative movement between the UJ and the yoke,
the halfshaft and the hubs.
