The '70 Spitfire I just aquired has an intereseting problem. It starts and
runs just fine, for a few minutes at least. After a few minutes the engine
will die if any load is placed on it. It ill also be very reluctant to rev
up. Only slight change to the throttle will not bog down the engine. I
went to the store and bought some Carb cleaner, and TONS of junk came out
when I sprayed it. I also replaced the spark plugs, they were defiantly
gone, and the condenser coil, my old chevette used to do the same thing when
the condenser went out. The air filter was extremely dirty, and looked as
if it had been sucking in oil, but I won't have a replacement until the end
of the week. All the changes helped the engine run smoother, but it still
will bog down any time you give it too much gas. I'm pretty sure it's carb
rebuild time, but wanted to ask if anyone else has seen this problem caused
by anything else.

Andy L.

P.S. the points and associated wiring was new.
