Cliff,

An extended run at over 4000 RPM cured mine..... I believe it's 
what my Alfa buddies call an "Italian Tune-Up" %>)

.... no really, perhaps there's some carbon build up. 
You can:

1. pull the head and follow the factory authorized "de-coke" 
procedure or 

2. Run it good 'n hard for 20 minutes. 

This really worked for me when I had the problem -- just be careful 
and have fun!
