I have recently purchased a 59 TR-3A project car. Along with the car
and what I believe to be it's origional engine (TS5778E) and transmision,
came a second motor (CT74045E) 2138cc and syncro transmision which was pulled
from a wrecked TR-4A.
The TR-3 engine has been sitting for about 20 years and, at the
moment can not be turned over by hand. The TR-4A engine turns over by hand,
and has had the head pulled, new valve guides installed, and from what the
previous owner has told me checks out to be good and can be re installed (
the head that is).
I plannd to rebuild the newer engine from the beginning but from
what I've been hearing I should replace the pistons and sleaves if I'm going
to do a good job. I have also learned recently at the Charlotte car show that
the two engines use the same block. So what's the difference or advantage of
rebuilding one or the other? Do I really need to replace the pistons and
sleaves? I asked my wife what she thought, but her eyes just over. Maybe
someone can shed some light on this for me.

Thanks, Mike --- completely torn down tagged, photographed and shelved
