K & N filters

I am considering installling K&N air filters on a 76 Spitfire
with a weber carb. There is a list of sizes from 3 1/4 X4 3/8
to 5 1/2 X 9.  Has anyone else done this and could you recommend 
which size. Can a weber get too much air.  Also thinking about 
doing the same for a TR3 with 175 Stromberg. Can anyone recommend 
a size here also  1 3/4" thick or 3" thick.
