It was recommended to me to use vinegar to for removing rust from my TR-3A
air cleaners.

Two days soaking in vinegar turned the paint to gunk which wiped off easily
(leaving a gummy residue that came off with paint thinner). Vinegar didn't
touch the corrosion.

The corrosion (which it seemed to be, rather than flaky rust) yielded
easily to 320 grit sandpaper, except that surface was a bit pitted, which
wasn't apparant until the paint was on..

I let one of the bare parts get wet and was astonished how quickly it
rusted again, but the new rust was superficial.
