I have a rollbar in my 1974 TR6, and it fits with no problems.
It was made by Autopower here in San Diego, and I *think* they are the
suppliers for Moss (and maybe others?). This rollbar is not SCCA approved,
and may be of little benefit in a really nasty roll. It clears the soft-top,
and I dont think the high-backs on your 72 will cause any clearance problems.
I had to get a little creative in fitting the tonneau, and did so by
a simple cut and loop to allow it to fit arounf the down parts of the bar. I
then secure the cut with velcro.
I've called Autopower and they will weld in more bracing for a
small fee, and then I'll have it powder coated. It will still not be
SCCA approved (even though it currently mounts at 4 points, the 4 points
are pretty close together so it qualifies as a 2-point cage), but I will
feel more confident of it. After the additional bracing, mounting a 5-point
harness will be easier.
To install it, you need to remove the rear wheels, use grade 8 bolts,
and make sure the shelf behind the seats is STRONG - any rust will negate any
benefits the bar may have.
Its a great place to hang the fire extinguisher, helps in pushing
the car around (when doing valve clearance, points etc). Padding the bar
is not necessary, as I'm unlikley to hit my head. It is noticible in
the rear-vision mirror, but it is not a major obstruction of rearward vision.
I feel better for it, and would recommend it. However I'd still
prefer something a little more substantial.
