All the way through the GT6 MkIII, there was no factory air conditioning
for the cars.
The dealers generally had a local automotive air conditioning shop come in
& fit a unit to the cars on the lot before selling them.
BUT...
My GT6 MkIII had just such an "original" dealer-added air conditioner unit.
Car was bought in Pensacola, FL, & the company which installed the a/c unit
left their sticker "Auto Air of Florida".
The a/c unit had an additional molded plastic panel which replaced the
passenger-side (right-hand here).
The panel held another vent & conceals the (evaporator? condensor? which
is the one inside the car?)
This molded plastic panel, the replacement engine cooling fan, & idler
pulley couldn't have been produced at this shop, so I think that "Auto Air
of Florida" bought a/c kits for "new" cars from some aftermarket a/c
supplier.
Auto Air of Florida is long gone, of course. But if anybody knows anyone
else who worked at an automotive a/c shop, ask if they've heard of such
things. Maybe out there somebody's got some NOS TR6, Spitfire, & GT6 a/c
kits - but it will be automotive a/c guys, not Leyland scavengers.
