I restored a 1969 MkIII and it had a very good original chassis. When I
stripped
it back it was definetly the case that the chassis was black and then the
under bonnet area was sprayed when the body was in place. I say this
because
there was a perfect line along the scuttle where the body colour (Damson)
stopped and the black continued back to the rear of the car.
I am convinced it was like this from day one because, even though the car
had been restored years before I bought it, it had beenm painted a Renault
version of Damson which is quite different to the original colour I found
on the Chassis
After all that I do have to say that this is an original Irish Car and
given the fact that they were assembled here, who's to say?
Cheers
