I solved the problem of not being able to get my 9" brake shoes to stay in
place. It turns out my system is from the first 5,000 cars and after this
many parts in this area were changed. Anyway Revington sent me an odd batch
of old springs and I found some to suit. Guess what, another bloody
problem, It seems to me that one of the back plates is bent, because when I
fit up the drum it sits square on the hub but the rim of the drum is out of
true with the edge of the back plate and binds on the shoes. This situation
is the same with or without the shoes fitted. Anyway the question is can I
remove the hub by undoing the four nylocs and withdrawing the whole lot
without any special tools or problems and will it go back without concern
to seals or bearings. The reason I need to do this is of course to remove
the backplate. The chassis is bare and sitting on blocks so access is no
problem.
