Found these couple of passages while working very hard (read:- flicking
idly) in Babara tuchman's 'A distant mirror'. (whizzo Hist book)

"The council also managed after a series of dramatic struggles with
John XXIII (no relation!), to depose him on charges of
piracy, murder, rape, sodomy and incest (of which Gibbon remarks that the
most scandalous charges were supressed)"

Crumbs, even in the 14th century MG ownership was something to be
ashamed of, no-one escapes the triumph inquisition (Yep, that old
chestnut again!)

Oh this one can't be ignored

Phillip d'Artois, Comte d'Eu commented that:-

' To take up the rear is to dishonour us and expose us to the contempt
of all.'

apparently he was talking about knights not wanting to follow peasant
intary into battle during the crusades, I hope!!

Tra for now,

Johnny Storm
