and I heartily second that advice. LBC's occasionally take a lot more
time, money, and TLC than you can spare at the moment, so a backup beater
is usually appreciated.
If you want more wrenching practice, get a salvage-yard engine for
your old Riviera, or consider a rebuild if the rest of the car is worth
keeping. I have an '81 Cadillac Seville, Diesel 350 V-8, which is known
as the Roadhogster, and the Cadillac, Buick, and Olds front-drives are
all interchangeable, or so I've been told - they all use the Toronado-
type front drive trans, and you could probably find a used engine (350
V-8 ?) to make the swap, if you care to chance it. Some salvage yards
may be able to do the work, and quote you a price, if you'd rather not
get into it yourself (talk about heavy metal !).
