The renovation of my 74 Spitfire 1500 is ongoing, and though it is not a daily
driver, it has yet to leave me stranded (many appendages crossed).
Back in the spring, I removed the fuel tank to remove some rust that had
collected in the bottom seam. (I used kerosene, a bunch of bolts, and some
vigorous shaking to loosen things up.) While the rest of the tankıs inner
lining is good, eventually, I would like to improve on my temporary cure. A
local radiator shop wants $180 to boil and Şchemically coatŞ the interior of
the tank (whatever that means). My feeling is that there ought to be a
cheaper, more targeted treatment, since the rust is confined to an area about a
half-inch wide along most of the bottom seam. Ideas?
Iım also wondering how long will it be before I see rust again that demands
attention.
