TR5 Exhaust Manifold

A friend of mine over in England has offered me his exhaust manifold and
stainless steel exhaust pipes ( twin outlet) for his TR5. Does anyone in
triumph land know :
          1.  Why British Leyland changed pipes for the carb TRs?
          2.  If this will fit my 1968 TR250?
          3.  Is there any advantage to the switch?
