Hi all,
Marie Hawkins recently asked if the Spitfire and GT6 racks were
interchangeable and if there is any difference. The racks are similar in
size and can be interchanged, however they are NOT the same. The GT6 has a
"slower" rack taken from a Vitesse 1600. The difference between the Spit
and the GT6 rack is that the Spit rack has 7 teeth on its pinion while the
GT6 has 6, thus increasing the steering ratio from 3.6 to 4.3 turns lock to
lock. This ratio was used to counter the heavier engine.
