Hi Andrew,
Let me try this again... I realized after replying to your
last message that the editor I am using doesn't automatically handle
"quoting" too well... My comments and your comments were mixed in my reply to
become quite a mess...
Just wondering about the engine number... I found
a couple numbers on the top edge of the head, right hand side.. these were
hidden under blue grease! I guess I mis-stated previously about the DPO..
in actuality he didn't paint the engine blue...he painted the GREASE on the
engine blue! I didn't find these numbers until I started wiping "dirt" off
the head and found numbers underneath...
Toward the front what appears to
be "RKC0589" is cast in the upper surface, and further toward the rear of the
engine the designation "TKC140x" is stamped. (the x may or may not be a bad
character stamp or a slip by the stamper...)
The number on the door plate
is "FM76516" and there also appears to be a metal band rivited in the engine
compartment by the left hood latch..but it is in pretty bad shape.
Thanks again,
Tony '78 (mostly) excellent Spitfire

I think
1974, but certainly by 1975
in the U.S. It sounds possible that
your car
has an engine earlier than
1978. What is the engine number? (It
should be
FMxxxxxUE if correct.)
