Saggy Rear End

My newly purchased 1978 Spitfire 1500 sits lower on the left rear than the
right rear. Tire clearance is about a half-inch on the left (even less when
the car is weighted by a driver) compared to about 1-1/2 inches and the top
of the rubber bumper is about 1-1/2 inches lower on the left than the right.
A look under the car doesn't show any obvious assymetry, including when up
on the lift at a local garage. The car seems to drive fine, though the left
wheel appears to "wobble" when on the car but not as much when placed on a
wheel balancer machine. Supposedly the shocks were recently replaced by the
PO, they appear symmetric in the rear.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions/advice as to how to proceed to further
diagnose and hopefully fix this problem.
