When I got my GT6+, the exhaust manifold was wrapped. About 18 months
after driving it quite a bit, the manifold simply disintegrated. It was
NOT rusted, it was brittle and simple broke.
Now, I'm not metallurgist, but something cause a cast iron manifold to
become brittle. I could break off chunks with my bare hands. I believe the
wrap and the heat somehow cause the metal to transform into something
else.
A friend who operates a muffler shop says that wrapping manifolds can
cause them to become brittle.
Anyway, my new manifold (thanks, Chris!) is NOT wrapped!
