Whaaassup, gang?
I'm investigating a problem of a rear axle that ocassionally bottoms
out on the Bugeye. (The shocks are ok... the rear is just lowered too
much.) After removing the 3-leaf comp springs last night I found that
they were sandwiched between two wedge-shaped spacers in the spring
pockets.
Spacers are 4" long and drilled out for the mounting bolts. They taper
down in thickness from 3/4 to 1/32 inch. The bottom spacer has 3/4 in.
end facing rear; top spacer has 3/4 in. end facing front. The result is
that the spring exits the pocket at a respectable upward angle while
still having a slight downward arch.
Unfortunately this setup lowers the car to the point where I have little
clearance (1-1/4 inch) between various axle bits and the floorpan - so
the car tends to bottom out at corners #3,6,7 at BFR. I just put the
spacers to a wire wheel and found - under all the dirt - that they are
stamped "11 degrees".
Anybody know who sells calibrated spacers like these? I figure that
5 or 6 deg will do the trick.
Thanks (in advance) for any info,
Sidewinder
