In the UK we usually term the car sides as nearside and offside , near side being nearest the kerb or in the UK the left side of the car looking forward from the drivers seat also Nr one cylinder is the one nearest the radiator ( opposite end from the gearbox ) ie front of spridget so on an original mini A series engine nr one cylinder was on the nearside but to those of you who drive on the wrong side of the road your near side would be our offside I guess !
