The guy who used to own the Harley dealership here in town . and who sold it
just before the economy began to sag, was telling me one day about the AMF
years . . as he owned a Harley dealership during that period. He actually
said that 80% of the bikes came back for warranty work. . per which was
often due to burned valves. It is a miracle that Harley held on to 1984
when things began to turn around with the EVO engine.
But to live through a period where 80% of the bikes he sold came back for
extensive warranty work? Amazing that he was able to hold on through that
period.
