I am far from anti GM. I have owned a '64 Corvair Spyder that I wished I still
had. Unfortunately, it was totaled while parked in my front yard by an
uninsured drunk. Since he owned nothing, and it was highly unlikely that he
ever would, I had no choice but to eat my loss and move on.
I bought a '69 Chevy pickup that gave me many years of very dependable service,
pulling my horses into country that many would not even look at without 4WD.
The 2WD Chevy did just fine.
Gary had a '76 GMC that he abused horribly. It had its first oil change when he
sold it to his son in 2004. The person who now owns it is still driving it, or
will be until Nevada takes his license next month. He really should have paid
the fine for his last DUII.
My problem is the lack of quality control in the newer ones. They are
deliberately designed to prevent owner repair, but seem to require more, and
more expensive, repairs than the older vehicles. When the dealership can't even
correctly diagnose and repair a problem, I can't help but believe that there is
a real problem.

My poor experiences in owning GM vehicles prejudices me against buying one
today. I completely agree that the quality has increased 10-fold compared to
the
junk they were pushing out in the 70's, but as a current owner of a 95 Chevy
pickup one thing that hasn't completely changed for the better is the dealer
experience. Obviously I am only speaking for dealers in my area, but in
expertise as well as their facilities, they seem stuck in past.

build than say a standard size Chevy, such as the Impala of the day. . .
yet of course the markup price to the customer was far more than a mere
$200.0.
I wonder how close those numbers hold true today?
It would not surprise me if the same situation still exists. Possibly not
at the same level of difference. . but still within a margin of difference
that would be surprising to many people.
