The story that was passed to me:
Back in the day when all our cars were being built whether it was in
Abingdon or somewhere else I do not know, there was this little rig that
they drove between buildings on parts runs etc - maybe beer runs, who knows?
It would get sprayed with a bit of paint from time to time, maybe to see the
color or ??
The vehicle was called The Old Speckled Hen because of it's shape and due to
the various bits of paint all over it.
Someone eventually made a beer and used the name, which I am sure was quite
the joke to those who had worked around the namesake.
