I think the variance is introduced with bodywork repairs over the years and
a change in windshield. The cars must have some variance otherwise they
wouldn't make a range of shims for the windshield.

btw, factory soft-goods, i.e. period NOS tops and tonneaus were supplied
with snaps fitted at the factory.
