Kirk,

When my clutch went several years ago I tried something similar to what you
are suggesting when I reassembled.  Just for the Halibut.  What I discovered
was that it takes way more force than you can muster to actuate the clutch
by pushing on the fork!!  At least that sure was the case for me.  I don't
know how much hydraulic pressure the slave generates when the system is
assembled, but it is sure way more than you can do by hand!
